‘Ambush marketing’ to be debated at Law Society
Ambush Marketing and the role of Intellectual Property will be the focus of debate at the upcoming Law Society free Public Debate.
A panel of experts will examine the phenomenon of ambush marketing, its effects and the way intellectual property law interacts with sponsorship and businesses, both large and small in this context.
Ambush marketing is a marketing strategy whereby an advertiser, company or unofficial sponsor of an event ‘coat-tails’ or associates themselves with the event.
Speakers at the debate will include Arthur Artinian, senior associate at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer; Pierre Williams of the FSB; Sarah Hadland, partner at Boyes Turner LLP and Mark Blayney Stuart, head of research at the Chartered Institute of Marketing.
Questions around sponsorship and marketing have been highlighted recently as Danish footballer, Nicklas Bendtner was fined £80,000 and banned for a game following his revealing of a betting company’s logo on his underwear during a goal celebration.
Members of the public, legal professionals, academics and not-for-profit employees and volunteers are invited to attend the debate, which takes place on Tuesday July 3 at the Law Society in Chancery Lane.
