A&P Tyne supports Royal Navy warship build
A North East shipyard is buoyant after supporting next-generation warship work.
A&P Tyne made four stern end units for HMS Belfast.
Described by the Royal Navy as boasting “high-end warfighting capability”, the submarine hunting frigate is set to enter service in the mid-2020s.
Hebburn-based A&P Tyne made the 220-tonne structures over a ten-month period through a partnership with BAE Systems.
Ian Douglas, managing director of A&P Tyne, said the project was another milestone for the firm, having previously worked on units for Queen Elizabeth aircraft carriers and the RRS Sir David Attenborough.
David McGinley, chief executive of APCL Group, within which A&P Tyne operates, added: “We are extremely proud to be playing such a significant role in the production of vessels which will help form the backbone of our nation’s future defence.”
