International Football transfers see sharp falls
The amount of completed player deals over the past 6 months has fallen by 9%, however, the biggest slump was seen in the value of the transfers which saw a fall of 34%.
The first six months of 2012 saw 4,973 transfers globally, totalling sales of $576m (£371m).
These totals are based on international transfers and not “domestic” ones, meaning that transfers within countries were not counted towards the total.
This fall in football transfers can be attributed to two major factors, these being UEFA fair play initiatives that are being introduced and the global economic problems that may have a factor on clubs finances.
However, there are a number of important factors to consider when it comes to these figures. The data here only covers the first 6 months of the year meaning that for the big five leagues (England, France, Germany, Italy and Spain) that only covered the January transfer window.
The bulk of international transfer dealings will take place in the second half of the year during the summer transfer window. This means that transfer dealings as a whole may pick up and thus not reflect what has been seen in the first half of the year.
