A specialist European eye hospital group is extending its reach with the acquisition of its first clinic in the Netherlands, strengthening its footprint across Europe.
Optegra has secured a 51 per cent share in a joint venture with Quadrum Capital to co-own Iris Eye Clinic in Boxtel, near Eindhoven.
This marks a significant milestone for the group, which already operates in the UK and Central Europe, including the Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia.
The Iris Eye Clinic offers cataract surgery and vision correction treatments, aligning with Optegra’s expertise.
Quadrum Capital’s connections with optical stores across Holland, through its ownership of Lens Online, the largest Dutch supplier of online contact lenses, will further bolster the partnership.
Hedzer Wester, investment manager at Quadrum Capital, said: “We are incredibly excited about welcoming Optegra on board as a majority shareholder.
“They are renowned for their operational excellence and have proven to be a successful partner for growth in multiple geographies.
“We are confident that this cooperation will unlock significant synergies and will lead to a highly successful partnership."
Established in 2007, Optegra has completed over one million eye procedures and treats more than 140,000 patients annually. It combines cutting-edge research, advanced technology and leading ophthalmic surgeons to deliver superior outcomes.
The joint venture will retain Iris Eye Clinic’s branding and cater to a mix of private and insured patients.
Dr Peter Byloos, chief executive officer of Optegra, added: “With the support of our investors, MidEuropa, we have identified this opportunity for growth and this acquisition is an exciting expansion of our European business.
“Not only will this bring Optegra to a very exciting market for public and private eye care procedures, but also the opportunity to develop relationships with a vast optometry community, through the strong connections which Iris Eye Clinic has already established.
“Optegra has gone from strength to strength in recent years and so we are in a strong opportunity to explore growth opportunities such as this one, and we look forward to working with Quadrum Capital to develop this Dutch business in the years ahead.”
With its expansion into the Netherlands, Optegra aims to solidify its position as a leader in ophthalmic services, offering innovative treatments across its growing network of 40 hospitals and 60 locations.
