Spire Southampton Hospital appoints new director
Jane Whitney-Smith has been appointed hospital director for Spire Southampton Hospital, the south’s largest private hospital.
Previously director of nursing, Jane has been instrumental in business growth at the hospital and will oversee the next phase of expansion, a £4 million investment programme in new facilities.
Spire Southampton Hospital has seen growth of 25 per cent in the last five years with £10 million invested in new facilities in the last three years.
Caring for patients in Hampshire, the Isle of Wight and Channel Islands, the hospital employs more than 200 leading consultants and 400 staff and offers a range of diagnostic and specialist treatments.
Jane, who lives in Petersfield, Hampshire said, “I am delighted and privileged to be taking up this new role and to work with so many eminent consultant specialists and clinicians. To me, the most important element in running a hospital is ensuring the patient is central to everything we do and that our staff work together to make this happen.’’
She said the hospital has built up an enviable reputation in the private health sector with some of the UK’s leading cardiac surgeons, liver specialists, neurosurgeons and orthopaedic specialists providing services for patients.
Spire Southampton also works in very close partnership with the NHS and provides studentships to several registrars, supporting their research and career development as well as training support for student nurses and operating department assistants. Spire Southampton also offers NHS treatments as part of the local healthcare community.
