National law firm Weightmans has strengthened its healthcare team in Newcastle with the appointment of Kirsty Stuart as principal associate for regulatory healthcare advisory.
Bringing over 15 years of experience in public law, mental health, and human rights, Kirsty will play a key role in reinforcing the firm’s healthcare regulatory practice across the UK, with a focus on the North East.
Previously with Irwin Mitchell, Kirsty specialises in cases involving mental health, mental capacity and public law. She has a particular interest in securing community care packages for autistic patients and individuals with learning disabilities detained in Mental Health Assessment and Treatment Units.
In addition to her new role, Kirsty serves as chair of the Law Society Mental Health and Disability Committee and is a member of the Law Society Policy and Regulatory Affairs Committee.
She said: “I am thrilled to be joining Weightmans as its reputation for getting results for its clients, particular in this sector, is unmatched.
“I am sure my years of experience, as well as the relationships I’ve grown in that time, will prove hugely beneficial to the team and the firm’s growth ambitions.”
Her appointment follows a period of growth for Weightmans’ healthcare segment, marked by strategic hires and major client wins throughout 2024.
Richard Jolly, partner and head of health at Weightmans, added: “Kirsty is another significant appointment to our health segment and represents the next stage in the development of our North East healthcare practice.
“Her expertise, especially in the wider mental health market, will be a real asset to our client offering both regionally and nationally. I wish her a very warm welcome and I’m excited to see her excel in the role.”
